31.   To counter Sea Breeze and keep a balance between ties to Russia and the West, Ukraine also is planning exercises with the Russian Black Sea Fleet this fall.

32.   Yeltsin has expressed concern about moving NATO military hardware into Eastern European countries and planned naval exercises in the Black Sea involving the United States and Ukraine.

33.   However, Washington said the joint exercises had been planned for several months.

34.   Both air-to-air combat and ground-attack exercises were planned.

35.   Beskorovainy added that joint naval exercises were planned in May and June with Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania and possibly Russia.

36.   The two countries had not planned exercises in the Aegean during that period, however analysts noted that the latest move makes the situation official.

37.   Taiwan also said it did not plan exercises.

38.   The Jordan-US military exercises were planned six months ago although US officials said the troops were being kept up to date with the situation involving Iraq.
