31.   Beijing and Hanoi have both granted oil concessions to foreign oil firms in areas where they hold overlapping claims.

32.   Brunei, China, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan and Vietnam have overlapping claims over the Spratly Islands in the South China Sea.

33.   Both Malaysia and Vietnam are among six countries with overlapping claims to the Spratlys, which are believed to sit atop oil deposits in the South China Sea.

34.   Both sides have pledged to resolve the issue peacefully although overlapping claims in the area from Taiwan, Malaysia, Brunei and the Philippines have complicated the situation.

39.   Manila and Beijing have overlapping claims to the Spratlys, a South China Sea chain.

40.   Overlapping claims to the Spratlys are also made by Taiwan, Malaysia, the Philippines and Brunei.
