31. Here, ethnic hatreds are more deep-rooted and more volatile than any in Bosnia. 32. If that goes, the Visigoths of nationalist frenzy and ethnic hatred will indeed be at the gates. 33. In Kosovo itself the bombs provided a smoke screen for the death squads, accelerated massacres and precipitated the most savage phase in a long history of ethnic hatred. 34. In the Balkans and elsewhere, we are supporting the advocates of moderation and tolerance against the ruthless exploiters of ethnic hatred. 35. It was not simply an eruption of long-simmering ethnic hatreds. 36. Kosovo was a story of blind ethnic hatred -- the poison that germinates with simple bigotry and transforms so easily into bloodshed. 37. Milosevic was cultivating ethnic hatreds and threatening war, but in a seemingly isolated corner of Europe known to few outsiders and apparently of little concern to Washington. 38. Nationalist politicians still spew ethnic hatred. 39. Now, the stand we have taken, first in Bosnia, now in Kosovo, against organized ethnic hatred is a moral imperative. 40.
