31.   A solemn appeal by Prime Minister Costas Simitis failed to persuade angry farmers to end blockades that have paralysed traffic across Greece for more than a week.

32.   After negotiating with government officials, the peasants agreed to end the blockade and continue their protest from the side of the road.

33.   The Serbs did however end a blockade of two British convoys which had been held up in eastern Bosnia.

34.   Vietnam Saturday called on Israel to immediately withdraw its troops from Ramallah and other Palistinian cities and immediately end its blockade of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.

35.   UNPROFOR accused the Croatian government of unofficially backing the protestors, and on Friday the UN Security Council called on Zagreb to end the blockade.

36.   It ended the blockade provided the ruling parties, which hold a comfortable majority in the lower house, did not ram the budget through without the opposition voting.

37.   Lebanon has appealed to the United Nations and the international community to help end the blockade.
