31.   One possibility for the decrease in antral carcinomas over time is a decrease in H pylori infection and hence a fall in the prevalence of chronic gastritis.

32.   In the control group of blood transfusion donors we have excluded the patients with serological evidence of H pylori infection, because of its association with chronic active gastritis.

33.   The high pepsinogen C concentrations in patients with duodenal ulcer are probably related to H pylori related chronic active gastritis.

34.   The histology indicated chronic active antral gastritis in all patients.

35.   Lysolecithin was the smallest component in the duodenal ulcer and chronic atrophic gastritis groups.

36.   The phosphatidylethanolamine value was higher in duodenal ulcer and lower in chronic atrophic gastritis compared with the control group.

37.   In chronic atrophic gastritis there was an appreciable amount of phosphatidylglycerol not present in patients with duodenal ulcer or in the control group.

38.   Phosphatidylglycerol was detectable in patients with chronic atrophic gastritis, but not in controls or in patients with duodenal ulcer.

39.   Only the chronic atrophic gastritis patients showed some phosphatidylglycerol.

40.   Histology showed that significantly more miners than controls had acute on chronic gastritis and intestinal metaplasia.
