21.   A Kisangani war council sentenced two senior Zairean army officials to death Monday for the murder of a shopkeeper in the eastern Zairean city.

22.   A Zairean army officer said the attackers were Rwandan army troops who had crossed the border.

23.   A Zairean army division, the elite force of President Mobutu Sese Seko, has been deployed round the camp for security purposes.

24.   A Zairean army headquarters statement said several thousand Ugandan troops had pushed into eastern Zaire while others were deployed at the border.

25.   A Zairean army officer told the state television station that the unit had been assisted by Banyamulenge, ethnic Tutsis who have been living in Zaire for generations.

26.   Above all they are happy with the improvement in the security situation, and are not looking forward to the prospect of Zairean army troops returning, he said.

27.   Angolan former rebels and mercenaries are meanwhile said to be fighting alongside the Zairean army.

28.   And the town is also home to one of the two airfields in the region to which the Zairean army currently has access.

29.   As the Security Council met, tens of thousands of refugees were on the move, fleeing fighting between Zairean army troops and rebel ethnic Tutsis in eastern Zaire.

30.   As with recruits, however, the rebels are managing to pick up some armaments from those left behind by the Zairean army.
