11.   To adjust the post, one merely has to turn the bar on the threaded rod, thereby either drawing the two-by-fours closer together or pushing them apart.

12.   To assemble a radiator, manufacturers inserted push nipples between each section then squeezed them together by tightening a threaded rod that ran through the entire radiator.

13.   With carriage or stove bolts and threaded rod, you can use either shaped nut.

14.   With threaded rods, bolts can be cut to needed lengths.
