11. Black students spoke out in solidarity with American Indians, and Hispanic students in solidarity with blacks. 12. Both schools reported substantial, though not as dramatic, drops in the numbers of new Hispanic students, while Berkeley reported an increase in Asian students. 13. But performance generally declined in elementary school reading, teacher preparation, adult education, and college graduation rates among Hispanic students. 14. But some admissions officers acknowledge that they make allowances for lower scores among blacks and Hispanic students and, at some colleges, for low-income whites. 15.
