11.   Police in riot gear used armored cars Saturday to separate Catholic protesters and members of a Protestant fraternal order staging their annual parade through this predominantly Catholic city.

12.   The street warfare was sparked by a showdown over the parade by the Orange Order, the long-dominant Protestant fraternal order that holds the parades each year.

13.   On Saturday night, yet another Protestant fraternal order, the Apprentice Boys, had clashed with Catholics and police in Bellaghy when they tried to march there.

14.   The ban was imposed after the Bogsiders demanded that the Apprentice Boys fraternal order ask their consent, which they refused to do.
