11.   Beat in flour mixture until just combined.

12.   Beat in half flour mixture.

13.   Beat or stir in chocolate morsels, grated chocolate, nuts if desired and remaining flour mixture until evenly incorporated.

14.   Beat chilled flour mixture until smooth.

15.   Beat egg whites until soft peaks form and fold into the flour mixture.

16.   Beat in about half of flour mixture.

17.   Beat in flour mixture alternately with milk in three additions.

18.   Blend in part of the flour mixture, then part of the champagne, alternating additions and mixing to a smooth batter.

19.   Blend in flour mixture alternately with milk and rum.

20.   Blend in nuts with last of flour mixture.
