1. When pro golfer Tiger Woods won the Masters two weeks ago, it was all I could do to suppress a yawn. 2. But no golfer has won the Masters, the U.S. Open, the British Open and the PGA in the same year. 3. Golfers win tournaments all the time, but no one ever really wins the U.S. Open. 4. In other words, the greatest golfer in history won less than one out of every five times he teed up in majors. 5. No golfer has ever won the Masters, or any other major tournament, with his wife as his caddie. 6. No golfer has ever won all four professional major championships in the same year. 7. Ordinary golfers can win a major. 8. Others say a grand slam is when a golfer wins all four in a calendar year. 9. So, those guys just have to play the best courses under tough conditions, and maybe the best golfer wins anyway. 10. Until now, no other golfer has won the Masters and the U.S. Open in the same year to get halfway to the Grand Slam. |
