1.   Australian stocks rose, following a gain in U.S. equities, amid optimism domestic economic growth will spur company earnings.

2.   Austrian bonds rose, following gains in U.S. bond market, traders said.

3.   BELGIAN shares rose, following gains in Asian shares and as recent U.S. corporate earnings reduced concern that the Asian financial crisis will hurt the earnings of Belgian companies.

4.   But most strategists regard this as a normal setback following big gains, not a fundamental reversal.

5.   CZECH stocks rose after two days of declines, led by Komercni Banka AS and SPT Telecom AS, following gains on equity markets across Asia and Europe.

6.   Donald Fine, chief market strategist for Chase Securities, said he expected a decline in durable goods in October following strong gains in both August and September.

7.   European stocks rallied, following gains in Hong Kong and the U.S.

8.   German shares rose, following gains in the U.S., Japan and Hong Kong, as the dollar gained against the mark to boost export shares.

9.   Japanese stocks fell, led by automakers, as traders and investors lowered their expectations for economic reforms following gains by the pro-business Liberal Democratic Party in weekend elections.

10.   Other large companies favored by foreign institutional funds as proxies for the health of the economy followed gains by PLDT and Metrobank.
