1. Both sexes show white wing patches in flight, looking rather like small Goldeneye. 2. Conspicuous white wing patches visible in flight. 3. In addition to their white wing patches and red eyes encircled by patches of blue skin, whitewings differ from mourning dove in many other ways. 4. They are larger than mourning doves and have a distinctive white wing patch visible in flight. 5. Each is a large, rich, rusty brown bird with a glossy green wing patch, or speculum, and a pale cream head and neck. |
