1.   Nor do they arrive on the cue of the calendar, on yearly anniversaries, or while reporters are watching.

2.   Ranchers are thinning already thin herds, while growers are planting drought-resistant, short-seasoned crops when they are planting at all.

3.   While some are quite beautiful for two or three years, they are short-lived in my gardens.

4.   While some are grumbling about lost beach time, there are few complaints about perfectly comfortable weather.
