1.   Arab Americans in New Jersey had asked her not to visit the tunnel.

2.   Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who personally ordered the completion of the tunnel, said Tuesday that he visited the tunnel last year and was moved.

3.   Many of the dozens of Jews visiting the tunnel Sunday said they came to demonstrate their support for its reopening.

4.   Netanyahu said Tuesday that he visited the tunnel last year and was moved.

5.   The government has not previously allowed the U.N. to visit the tunnel.

6.   Whitman said she consulted former Prime Minister Shimon Peres and U.S. Ambassador Martin Indyk Sunday on whether to visit the tunnel.

7.   Whitman did not visit the tunnel Friday, but said she hopes to do so during her stay, if her ailing back allows.

8.   Whitman said she had not made a final decision about visiting the tunnel and that she might do so on Wednesday.
