1.   For the vent openings, cover them with polyethylene plastic or any airtight material, and tape the edges.

3.   Other possible problems with the fireplace include an incorrectly positioned vent opening on the roof above the room addition or an improperly installed fireplace.

4.   The ridge pole has the usual vent openings.

5.   Whichever soffit vent you choose, you must make sure that the attic insulation does not cover the vent opening.
