1. Any woman whose mother took this hormone while pregnant is at increased risk for a rare vaginal cancer, infertility and other medical problems. 2. But none of the Pap tests or follow-up biopsies found vaginal cancer. 3. Later, it was found to cause genital abnormalities and a rare form of vaginal cancer in women exposed to it while in the womb. 4. Newbold reported last year that granddaughters of treated female mice have significantly higher-than-normal incidence of vaginal cancer. 5. Their daughters, doctors learned later, suffered from reduced fertility, immune system disorders and vaginal cancers. 6. There is some evidence for a DES-related testicular cancer that is biologically related to the vaginal cancer found in DES daughters. |
