1.   Diazinon has been a widely used commercial pesticide, now being phased out for some kinds of applications by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

2.   Diazinon is a commonly used pesticide that can be toxic to humans and wildlife.

3.   Farmers across the country are at odds with environmentalists over several issues, including the disposal of animal waste and the banning of widely used pesticides.

4.   Last week, Carol Browner, the EPA administrator, fired her first shot, announcing tough new restrictions on two widely used pesticides.

5.   Scientists also are analyzing the livers of dead Florida Bay birds for the presence of endosulfan, a commonly used pesticide on vegetable fields in southern Dade County.

6.   The agency banned the use of another widely used pesticide, Dursban, in homes and gardens this past summer.

7.   It is one of several widely used pesticides that the EPA has restricted or banned as part of its review of organophosphates.

8.   The EPA took similar action to phase out another widely used organophosphate pesticide, Dursban, earlier this year.
