1.   Hargett said unrestrained children become projectiles when vehicles are involved in traffic accidents and that injury and death can result in even minor incidents.

2.   Linda Tomasini, a traffic specialist with the Texas Department of Transportation, said drivers reported for ferrying unrestrained children will receive informational brochures and warning letters.

3.   The number of deaths was still higher for unrestrained children, however.

4.   The risk of death for an unrestrained child is double that for a child in a car seat.
