1.   Many attackers wore uniforms and carried guns, but others wore civilian clothes and had white cloths tied around their foreheads and machetes, witnesses said.

2.   Across the Spree River, people tied white cloth over a half-size replica of a Soviet tank.

3.   Others tied black cloths to traffic lights.

4.   Authorities asked residents who wanted to be evacuated to tie red cloths to the outside of their homes.
