1.   CUC Broadcasting of Canada, which also owns U.K. television franchises, has made public its wish to sell its U.K. cable business.

2.   If the proposed new rules are implemented, Carlton will be unable to buy any more commercial television franchises.

3.   In particular, it would like companies to be allowed to own more than two commercial terrestrial television franchises.

4.   MAI, a media and financial services company, owns television franchises in the U.K.

5.   This television franchise is too valuable for that.
