1. Four patients in the steroid group had mild complications attributable to this treatment. 2. Treatment failure occurred in two patients of the steroid group, both within the first week. 3. These changes were accompanied by a greater and more sustained increase in energy intake in the steroid group. 4. Despite this the median height velocity SD score was greater in the elemental diet group than in the steroid group. 5. The median increase in the steroid treated group was significantly greater than in the elemental diet group. 6. Increased disease activity occurred in six patients from the steroid group and in three from the elemental diet group before six months had elapsed. 7. The median height velocity SD scores in the remaining patients were significantly greater in the elemental diet group than the steroid group. 8. Using a measurement known as the Profile of Mood States, the steroid group was also found to have become significantly less fatigued, Dr. Johansen said. 9. The steroid group experienced far less sneezing, runny nose and congestion than the group using pills. |
