1.   Another reason your stain peeled may be that it was applied too thickly.

2.   Both may peel, but the stain may peel less than the paint, and neither may peel at all.

3.   A solid stain can peel, by the way, whether it is latex or oil.

4.   But even solid stains can peel.

5.   I personally would avoid this last suggestion because solid-color stain can peel.

6.   However, solid stains can peel, and often do because of the moisture.

7.   Q. My oil-based solid stain still peels and flakes.

8.   Semitransparent stain will not peel.

9.   Semitransparent stains do not peel unless they are applied too thickly or two coats are applied.

10.   Stains will peel less than paint because they allow water vapor to pass through them.
