1.   Affifuddin said when Bank Negara intervenes in the market by selling the US dollar to stabilise the ringgit, the central bank gains ringgit from the exercise.

2.   Bank Negara in its announcement on Wednesday said that it might raise interest rates temporarily if there is a need to stabilise the ringgit.

3.   Bank Negara, which had not used its power to intervene and stabilise the ringgit since August, came into the market to ensure stability.

4.   DEPUTY Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Bank Negara could intervene in the money market from time to time to stabilise the ringgit.

5.   He said the Government has introduced the necessary measures to stabilise the ringgit.

6.   However, in another area, Dass feels that using interest rates policy as a pre-emptive measure to contain inflation and stabilise the ringgit may not be viable.
