1.   Public spending needs to be limited, as does the growth in credit, it said.

2.   Disgruntled investors could batter the dollar and send interest rates higher, a development that could scare off consumer and business spending needed to bolster the shaky economy.

3.   Strauss-Kahn said France would also keep to the pact, declaring that government spending needed to be stabilized.

4.   Government spending would need to be kept in check and fiscal policy kept on track in order to cope with the ageing population.
