1.   In spring, mounded soil drains and warms up quicker than that at ground level.

2.   It could be that your soil usually drains adequately but could not quite accommodate all the extra rain.

3.   Sandy soil drains quickly so the field can be ready to play not long after a rain shower.

4.   The soil must drain well to prevent garlic rot.
