1.   A rich soil soon becomes home to rampant weeds which smother less competitive, more attractive plants.

2.   As soils become saturated, local flooding will occur.

3.   But as temperatures cooled and the soil became saturated by fall rains, the mounds became conspicuous.

4.   Do not allow the soil to become so dry the plant wilts, either.

5.   During this time, growth slows down, so reduce watering, although it is best not to let the soil become completely dry.

6.   If the ashes are always spread over the same areas, check the pH every two years to make sure the soil does not become too alkaline.

7.   Leaves will yellow between the veins if the soil becomes too alkaline.

8.   The soil is becoming considerably more acidic, and bacteria and fungi, which return nutrients to the soil, appear to be in decline.

9.   They say that after the earth is scorched the soil becomes more fertile, and that after your head is shaved the hair grows back fuller.

10.   Use only well-draining soil, and let the soil become almost dry between waterings.
