1.   After Alfonzo walked to load the bases, and Arizona brought in reliever Dan Plesac, Olerud smashed a grounder past first base that scored Bonilla and Henderson.

2.   Gates reached out and smashed a grounder toward right field, but first baseman Tino Martinez, positioned perfectly, fielded the ball and outran Gates to the base.

3.   In the second inning, Rafael Furcal smashed a grounder up the middle that deflected off the shoe of the Mets starter Glendon Rusch.

4.   Jeff Bagwell smashed a grounder to third, where Edgardo Alfonzo gloved the ball.

5.   Ray Lankford then smashed a grounder toward the middle.

6.   Ron Coomer then smashed a grounder that ricocheted off Nelson toward second base, where Knoblauch scooped the ball and stepped on the bag to end the inning.
