1.   This study suggests some degree of idiopathic autonomic denervation in patients with slow transit constipation.

2.   We have abandoned restorative proctocolectomy after failed ileorectal anastomosis in patients with slow transit constipation as half have now requested pouch excision because of poor results.

3.   By contrast, restorative proctocolectomy for slow transit constipation is now no longer recommended as half have had their pouch excised because they were dissatisfied with the functional results.

4.   Other studies have disclosed that patients complaining of slow transit constipation have impaired cyclic rectal activity, suggesting that these patients have a motor neuropathy.
