It slows the absorption of foods, as if someone was eating many mini-meals, and thus delays the time when the person feels hungry again. 4. Since fiber slows absorption of food in the body, it does not provoke as dramatic an insulin response. 5. Soluble fibers absorb water in the stomach and small intestine, promoting satiety and helping to slow food absorption. 6. The lack of fiber is detrimental because fiber can slow the absorption of carbohydrates and prevent surges in the levels of blood sugar and insulin. |
