1.   Shaw said that the negotiations gained momentum on Friday night and Saturday morning, when the two sides altered their wage proposals.

2.   Early Tuesday, a Palestinian negotiator said neither side had yet altered its position on the core dispute over what to do with the militiamen inside the church.

3.   Neither side has altered its fundamental position.

4.   The foreign minister spoke by phone Wednesday with U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, but there was no sign that either side had altered their positions.

5.   Union and company officials said Tuesday that neither side has altered its position.

6.   UN officials, however, said there is nothing in the armistice agreement which allows one side to unilaterally alter the accord.
