1.   A. Good old clear shellac will seal the knots.

2.   The shellac must seal all surfaces to prevent bug infestation.

3.   The shellac will seal the plaster and keep it from absorbing water from the compound.

4.   This will seal the cedar against bleeding, just as shellac seals a water stain on a plaster ceiling to keep it from bleeding through the ceiling paint.
