1.   Some settlers said Hoshiyeh had a hand grenade on his belt and was on his way to attack Jews.

2.   But Jewish settlers say their children are terrorized nightly by shots fired at their homes by Palestinians.

3.   But skeptical settlers said the move was meant to appease them just before Israel made territorial concessions that would endanger their existence.

4.   Emboldened by a right wing government, more settlers say they would not sell their land and would resist any orders to do so, even with force.

6.   Ideological settlers say they are upset but not surprised by the violence, having been convinced that the peace effort would disintegrate into bloodshed.

7.   In both cases, Palestinians said the shootings had been unprovoked while the settlers said they opened fire in self-defense.

8.   In Yitzhar, the settlers say only that they will protest, pray and work to strengthen the settlement by bringing in new families.

9.   Israeli settlers also said that a firebomb had been thrown at vans driving Jewish children in Hebron.

10.   Jewish settlers have said they were praying for a miracle to prevent Israeli troops from withdrawing.
