1.   After setting the tiles, put mortar in the joints.

2.   If stripping sounds like too much work, you can set new tiles on the old, using thin-set mortar.

3.   Others are setting painted tiles in floors and even patios.

4.   Setting irregular tiles also adds to the cost.

5.   Setting floor tiles on a wood substrate presents special problems because the floor can bend and flex under weight.
