1.   As with so many transparent political maneuvers, the resolution was one more attempt to get government in the religion business.

2.   In every time of crisis, people want government to be in the religion business.

3.   Many Protestant religious leaders want government to be in the religion business, like leaders of the Southern Baptist Convention who support school prayer.

4.   Taking the new American government officially out of the religion business protected the young nation from sectarian conflicts that could have torn it apart.

5.   That gets perilously close to the religion regulation business.
