Federal drug czar Barry McCaffrey has threatened to revoke the medical license of any doctor who recommends marijuana for medical use. 4. Federal authorities threatened to revoke the prescription licenses of doctors who recommended marijuana, but were thwarted by a federal judge. 5. He told them he had terminal prostate cancer, that the marijuana was recommended by a doctor and that the plants were in his barn. 6. In April the judge issued a preliminary injunction barring the government from threatening or taking any action against doctors who recommend marijuana to their patients. 7. In short, under the latest court decisions, a doctor can recommend marijuana legally but a cooperative cannot supply it legally. 8. It demands only that prospective clients sign a notarized declaration under penalty of perjury that a doctor has recommended marijuana for treatment of a medical condition. 9. Physicians also stand to lose their federal registration to prescribe drugs if they recommend marijuana for medical purposes, federal officials said. |
