1.   The U.S. aim was to persuade Milosevic to recognize Bosnian statehood and cut off the flow of supplies to the Serbian separatists.

2.   An Israeli newspaper said Thursday that Israeli and Palestinian officials held secret talks last fall and drafted an agreement that would recognize Palestinian statehood.

3.   Arafat has indicated he would postpone the declaration if some European states would recognize statehood once he makes the declaration.

4.   Turkey last week said it would take steps to boost its diplomatic bonds with northern Cyprus, whose statehood is recognized only by Ankara.
