1.   Downer said the government is determined to get to the truth behind allegations of pedophile activity by diplomats and of an alleged cover-up.

2.   He also expressed concern at the alleged involvement of expatriates in pedophile activities in his country.

3.   He was giving evidence to the joint parliamentary committee on the National Crime Authority, which is holding an inquiry into organized criminal pedophile activity.

4.   It also follows unproven claims by a maverick legislator that senior members of the state government, opposition and judiciary were involved in a cover-up of pedophile activity.

5.   One former senior diplomat has been charged over alleged pedophile activities and is due to appear in court in Australia later this month.
