1.   The only other incumbent to lose in a primary this year was nine-term Democratic Rep. Matthew Martinez of California.

2.   The only other vulnerable GOP incumbent, he added, is Sen. William Roth of Delaware.

3.   The two other incumbents in statewide offices, Comptroller H. Carl McCall and Attorney General Dennis Vacco, have also worked aggressively to fill their coffers early.

4.   The two other incumbents, education minister Najib Tun Razak and chief minister of central Selangor state Muhammad Taib retained their posts.

5.   Youth and Sports Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and chief minister of Selangor state Muhammad Muhammad Taib are the two other incumbents.
