1.   All the Clearys are recyclers and innovators, able to see a future life in an old rusted light fixture.

2.   But lately the old political fixtures have begun to look more attractive, and polls showed voters poised for a flight to the familiar.

3.   I removed the bracket for the old light fixture from the electrical box and used wallboard anchors to install the mounting ring that came with the new fixture.

4.   I put the cover plate of the old fixture back in place, but now, of course, the fixture was without power.

5.   If the old fixture has a glass globe or diffuser remove it.

6.   If the old fixture screws off without any trouble, the whole replacement process will take less than half an hour.

7.   Loosen the fingerscrews or other devices that hold the cover in place on the old light fixture.

8.   Some even wave cash, offering to buy the old fixtures, antiques to them, functional items to Wayne, Marty and Melvin.

9.   They tend to be the ones that look seriously unrenovated, complete with dirty walls, old fluorescent light fixtures and plenty of exposed electrical conduit.

10.   To reach them, drywall has to be ripped out, after which new insulation can be installed above the old fixture or a more efficient new one.
