1.   Ajuga, ardisia, Asian jasmine, ferns, ivy, liriope, monkey grass, dwarf mondo grass and vinca are shade candidates.

2.   I like dwarf mondo grass planted between large pieces of flagstone.

3.   Sternbergia lutea, whose giant crocuslike flowers are as yellow as egg yolks, looked quite smashing next to black mondo grass.

4.   The plants are complemented by calm spots of mondo grass, a low-growing dark green ground cover.

5.   These guys are so big that mondo grass is used to make their curly eyelashes.
