1.   It was at least the third time in three years the human rights organization has charged that foreigners have been mistreated by German police officers.

2.   Klaus Steffenhagen, deputy chief of the German Police Union, conceded there have been a few isolated instances of police mistreating foreigners.

3.   Officials said the deported foreigners were not mistreated.

4.   Foreigners were widely mistreated at the hands of government security forces across Europe last year, the rights group Amnesty International said in its annual report published Thursday.
