Chester Darling, a lawyer for the organizers, described staging the protest march as an unfortunate step necessary to have a parade of any kind this year. 7. Farrakhan and other Nation of Islam officials promoted the march as an endorsement of Farrakhan as the new leading voice for black Americans. 8. His father also showed him the value of the march as a tool, and Bryant said the tool still worked. 9. Many black gay men supported the march as an important show of unity and solidarity among black men. 10. Many viewed the march as a much needed opportunity for self-reflection. |
