1.   The cab drove steadily out of Brighton on the London Road, and then, at the summit of the Downs, turned left down a long lane.

2.   He turned left down an alley without indicating and I had to carve up a Volvo with Swedish number plates in order to follow him.

3.   A little further on she turned left down a quiet lane and pulled up outside two large gates in the centre of high walls.

4.   Leaving the restaurant, I turn left down Connecticut Avenue and immediately recognize the man in a dark topcoat striding briskly in my direction.
