Alongside the issues of social justice and religious fundamentalism, Turkey also confronts the question of how to deal with its large Kurdish minority. 6. But it would horrify Turkey, an American ally, never mind Iran and Syria, each of which has its own Kurdish minority. 7. By ordering the attack, Hussein appeared willing once again to test U.S. resolve to protect the Kurdish minority. 8. If Turkey is to become acceptable to the EU, it will have to respect the rights of its Kurdish minority. 9. In each of these countries, regimes have effectively contained and weakened the Kurdish minority. 10. Kurds now dream of an autonomous region within a democratic Iraq, which would be acceptable to Turkey with its large Kurdish minority. |
