1.   Even worse, too much fruit with too few leaves to supply food can actually kill the vine.

2.   It is incurable, and kills vines within a year or two of transmission.

3.   Really cold winters can kill merlot vines.

4.   There is no cure for the disease, which kills vines by preventing them from absorbing water and nutrients.

5.   When the fungi start growing, however, they can kill the vines or just make them sickly underachievers.
