1.   Dozens of state and local laws restrict indoor smoking in offices and other public buildings.

2.   It is the same rationale that figured in decisions last year to ban indoor smoking in the Tarrant County Jail and several other Texas lockups.

3.   Massachusetts also enacted some of the first broad bans on indoor smoking, starting with public buildings.

4.   To be sure, the national battle over indoor smoking continues unabated, and anti-smoking forces are making continuing inroads there as well.

5.   A growing number of employers, businesses and governments have banned indoor smoking.
