1.   Thai companies are continuing to import Cambodian timber despite the ban imposed by the UN and the Cambodian government in January.

2.   A timber ban was considered as well, but was sidetracked by China and France, which import Liberian timber.

3.   Foreign companies import timber from Borneo, much of it harvested illegally.

4.   Last year, Global Witness, an international anti-logging activist group, charged that Chavalit was involved in importing timber illegally from Cambodia.

5.   Most timber is imported from neighboring Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia.

6.   He said that the government had plans to import timber to meet domestic consumption and export processing.
