1.   Assuming that the new department is successfully created, the new secretary is widely expected to be Tom Ridge, the homeland security adviser.

2.   With the title of homeland security adviser, Ridge is supposed to have powers to match those of Condoleezza Rice, the national security adviser.

3.   Former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge is the current homeland security adviser, and Congress has been pushing a reluctant Bush to give him Cabinet status.

4.   Homeland security adviser Tom Ridge said the new department may cost more initially but not over the long term.
