1.   Defending Olympic normal hill champion Espen Bredesen barely made the team for Nagano, placed on the squad in the last round of selections.

2.   Harada, the large hill world champion, lagged third after the first series, behind Peterka and another Japanese, Hiroya Saito.

3.   Masahiko Harada, a former normal hill world champion, became the first Japanese in world championship history to win the large hill competition.

4.   The German, a two-time World Cup overall champion and the large hill world champion two years ago, won three of the first four events.

5.   Third went to Olympic large hill champion Jens Weissflog of Germany, who is retiring after this season.
